I installed it on my laptop using Wubi, so Vista's still around. Shame I can't access the rest of my hard drive this way, but oh well. I'm happy with it.
The Wubi install method creates a virtual disk drive for Ubuntu to use as a separate, logical drive; and it makes some changes to Windows' boot commands to give a dual boot option.
However, with this method, Ubuntu cannot access any data on the rest of the partition. It appears to be able to access other partitions on the same physical drive (three words: "Toshiba System Volume"), but the reason I used Wubi in the first place is, I don't want to repartition my hard drive.
Or at least, not yet I don't. I have a lot of cleaning and backing up to do.
