I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting to like Windows Vista (Home Premium edition, specifically). It has its quirks, but overall it's not that bad. This is a screenshot taken 6 days after I got the new laptop.

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 using Wubi, but I discovered Ubuntu doesn't yet have a driver for my Wi-Fi unit, so I took it back off. I'm going to wait until a driver is written and included.

Vista is here to stay, though. :)

(Note: I used Paint's airbrish tool down there one one window title (a Pidgin chat window). I just wanted a quick solution; I haven't installed my preferred editors (GIMP and Irfanview) yet. :) )

(Another note: The wallpaper is this if anyone wants it. :)

well... ubuntu WILL NEVER release WIFI drivers...

but instead of ubuntu, try linuxmint 6, it's based on ubuntu and contains everything ubuntu does but the styles and the wallpapers (you still can download them form the repos)

also, it comes with some new programs, specific to linux mint, and a windows wifi driver emulation program, so just, insert the driver CD and copy the required files with the assistant =)

Ultimately I ended up installing VMWare Player to get my Ubuntu fix. :) It's not the same as using Linux as the host OS, but it'll do for now.

well, it's an option, i also could have switched to linux, a lot of time ago, like 3 years or so, but this pc was in a different location, too far from the router, and i couldn't connect to it via ethernet, i used to use a USB wifi card, which won't work in linux, so i was STILL using windoze... till now ^^

They're getting really close to finishing the v2 (also called the "AMS") ports, from what I can tell. Start checking the page often if you're intrigued. ;)

Unfortunately, true. However, the developers are working on ports slowly but surely. Keep a weather eye on the home page. :)
